Philip Cokorinos - Bass Baritone Joins Newark School of the Arts

Newark School of The Arts is pleased to announce the hiring of Philip Cokorinos, Bass Baritone who joined its faculty. Mr Cokorinos has performed with the Metropolitan Opera for the past 17 years. Notable performances include Masetto in a "Live from the MET" telecast of Don Giovanni, The World Premiere of John Corigliano's highly successful The Ghosts of Versailles, as well as the MET premieres of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, War & Peace, The Gambler, and Sly. Perhaps best known for his portrayal of Leporello in Don Giovanni, he has performed the role with Opera Pacific, Atlanta Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Calgary Opera, Berkshire Opera, Utah Symphony & Opera among many others.

Most recently, adding to his ever-expanding repertoire, Mr. Cokorinos performed his first Olin Blitch in Susannah to rave reviews. Additional recent engagements include Capellio in Bellini's I Capuleti e I Montecchi with Spoleto Festival USA, Mephistopheles in Faust with Chautauqua Opera, Sparafucile in Rigoletto with Connecticut Grand Opera, and Leporello in Don Giovanni with Atlanta Opera. Next, he will perform Sciarrone in Tosca with the MET in the Parks series, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Chautauqua Opera, Der Freischutz with Opera Orchestra of New York, and will appear with the Metropolitan Opera in their productions of Manon and Cyrano de Bergerac.

Newark School of the Arts offers private and group lessons in Music, (voice & instrumental), Dance, Drama and Visual Arts. Registration is now taking place at NSA and will continue through the fall. Cuban Pianists Perform at Newark School of the Arts

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month Newark School of the Arts will play host to three Cuban pianists who will perform concerts at The School's Davis Hall at 89 Lincoln Park on September 24th, October 1st and October 8th.

The highly accomplished pianists are Adonis Gonzales, Marlenes Luvin and Juanes Zayas all presently residing in the United States. They have performed all over the world and are the recipients of major awards as well as garnering cricital acclaim both nationally and internationally. Mr. Gonzales who is presently pursuing a Doctorate in Musical Arts at Rutgers University is the winner of the 2005 Rutgers Concerto Competition. The programs will include works of Mozart, Chopin, Ravel, Bach. Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, Cervantes, Rachmaninoff among others.

In addition to these performances The Newark School of the Arts will present its own program honoring Hispanic Heritage Month October 22nd at the Stella Lass Theatre at 186 Clinton Avenue featuring faculty and students.
