Purpose

The purpose of the Actor's Studio at NSA is to provide a comprehensive, professional training program in the theatrical arts for beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels to encourage both individual and ensemble artistry. Drama classes are offered to elementary aged students (8-12) and secondary students (13-18). Select advanced students are invited to become members of the Developmental Stages Workshop Company.

The Studio if committed to providing students with a solid understanding and foundation of the
actor's craft. Each session will culminate with a showcase of students class work.

The Actor's Studio may invite special guest speakers of industry professionals on a periodic basis. With their specific expertise, these professionals can offer an inside look at the performing arts industry and provide students with an interest in academic and career paths in the theatrical world, the opportunity to apply their interests in a meaningful and proactive manner. The rationale for incorporating professionals into the drama program is two-fold; to support the students in bolstering or cultivating skills and to offer resources regarding professional and academic opportunities for all students engaged in the drama program.

Performance Opportunities

At all levels, students will receive on-stage experience. Each session will culminate with a showcase of the student's class work. With the guidance of the instructors, monologues, scenes and one-act plays will be presented to the NSA staff, student body and public. Intermediate and advanced students may be invited to understudy, perform, or assist the director on main stage productions.
